World War Two

As part of our topic,  6 held a World War II theme day to engage them into the start of the topic.

During the day the children dressed up in costumes of the era and took part in a variety of activities. These included listening to wartime music, making gas mask boxes, making carrot cookies, creating identity cards and luggage labels as well as playing traditional street games such as hopscotch, skipping, hide and seek and rolling hula hoops.

The children thoroughly enjoyed the day’s activities and even tasting carrot cookies, which surprisingly tasted much better than it looked.

This was then followed up with a trip to Kelham Island where they learnt about life on the home front, experienced what it would be like in an Anderson Shelter and learnt about the life of an evacuee, investigating their suitcases. We finished off the day listening to children’s hour on the Wireless where we heard the tale of the Elves and the Shoemaker and sang a wartime favourite!
We would like to thank the parents for making a fantastic effort to dress their children, they looked fantastic.

We hope you enjoy the photos of the day.
