The Children’s University is a trust, managed through a network of local Children’s Universities in England.
It’s main aims is raise aspirations, boost achievement and through quality learning activities outside normal curriculum time. Their belief is that fostering a love of leaning enables children to make the most of their abilities and interests, regardless of the background into which they were born.
The philosophy of the C.U. is underpinned by 3 basic principles:
- The belief that learning is a life-long process
- The belief that all children want to learn
- The belief that all parents want their children to succeed
The Children’s University awards are given for hours that children spend in extracurricular activities e.g. after school or lunchtime clubs and any additional hours spent in activities which are outside the normal curriculum . Kingfisher Primary School offer a variety of activities for the children to choose from, such as: sport (rugby, football, dance, netball, rounders etc), music (recorders, wind group, choir, instrumental lessons), etc.
The children can also earn rewards for activities they complete outside of school e.g. brownies, swimming lessons, visiting educational establishments, such as Weston Park Museum or the Yorkshire Wildlife Park.
Awards are presented annually at a graduation ceremony and are in recognition of hours completed:
Bronze Award – 30 hours
Silver Award – 65 hours
Gold Award – 100 hours
Bronze Certificate – 130 hours
Silver Certificate – 165 hours
Gold Certificate – 200 hours
